Measurement of brain edema by noninvasive cerebral electrical impedance in patients with massive hemispheric cerebral infarction.

BACKGROUND Malignant cerebral infarction often occurs in patients with massive cerebral infarction. Monitoring brain edema is therefore helpful to make correct clinical decisions. Our previous studies have confirmed that cerebral electrical impedance (CEI) can sensitively reflect the brain edema after stroke. METHODS The CEI was measured consecutively by a noninvasive brain edema monitor in 6...

CEREBRAL EDEMA: A RARE COMPLICATION IN GALACTOSEMIA

A 34 day-old girl infant was admitted for poor feeding and cholestasis. She had a bulging fontanelle, with no evidence of intracranial infection or hemorrhage. Investigations demonstrated that she had galactosemia. Computed tomographic scans demonstrated the presence of diffuse cerebral edema. After treatment the edema resolved.

Effect of pentoxifylline on brain edema in a rat model of transient focal cerebral ischemia

Pervious studies have shown that pentoxifylline (PTX) has beneficial effects in reduction of stroke and brain trauma injuries in experimental animals. However, there is very little and controversial information about the effect of PTX on brain edema in cerebral ischemia. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effects of different doses of PTX on brain edema and neurological m...

Predictors of life-threatening brain edema in middle cerebral artery infarction.

BACKGROUND We performed a systematic review to identify predictors of the development of life-threatening brain edema in patients with middle cerebral artery infarction. METHODS We searched Medline from January 1966 and Embase from January 1974 to April 2007 for cohort and case-control studies on predictors of life-threatening edema in patients with middle cerebral artery infarction. Crude da...
